Period Instrument Luthier in Vienna, Austria, and La Coruña, Spain

Taller de Luthier La Coruña

I divide the year and seasons between Vienna and Spain,  with most summers spent in Spain. Musicians are welcome to visit the new workshop in the old city, try instruments as well as Spanish wines, and in general move at a slower pace in sync with my own.  In the winter months I can still be found in Vienna, hibernating, working, and enjoying the fairytale scenery powered with snow.

 Instrument Commissions

Finished instruments on the gallery page can be sent by private courier for a period of two weeks to musicians located within the European Union or United Kingdom with a guarantee of satisfaction or all funds returned.  If however a musician requires a certain model or unique instrument,  commissioning  may perhaps be something to consider. If you happen to be located in Spain or Austria, home trials can be arranged without payment.

I usually prefer to meet with the musician if at all possible, hear them play and attempt together to divine the exact kind of tone they are seeking. If this is not logistically possible communication through email and video, and a process of listening together to audio recordings of historic instruments can narrow down the tonal requirements and needs of the musician.  An astonishing variety of tonal pursuits can be achieved with the choice of wood and materials, arching, contour and width of outline and form, to in the end have a final sound exactly suited to a particular playing style.

I usually ask that a 25% deposit be made before starting work on a instrument commission. Final payment is due upon finishing. All my instruments are sold on approval, hence I offer 100% happiness or all funds returned.  In addition, if an instrument on the workbench page might suit your needs, a deposit payment will secure ownership of that particular instrument.
